About Us
Vancourt Publications (VP) is devoted to producing, publishing, and publicizing academic, curricular, motivational, and inspirational materials for children, youth and adults. VP is devoted to providing materials that are anti-racist, anti-sexist, based on respect for all peoples, and geared towards achieving equity for all peoples.
Author
Israelin Shockness, M.Ed., Ph.D., educator, curriculum developer, freelance writer and researcher for over 25 years is the editor of Vancourt Publications, the author of "What If I Can't?" "You Can!" and the founder-director of The Tutoring Workshop, a service particularly aimed at helping those who have fallen behind academically, and/or who have dropped out of school. She's involved in several community organizations and initiatives, and writes a weekly column in a community paper on children, youth, parenting, education and community. Her two favourite sayings are:
"Every youth can learn" and "Youth motivation can be achieved through encouragement, empathy, empowerment and education - the 4E's."
Mission
It is the mission of Vancourt Publications (VP) to provide materials geared to raising self-esteem among readers of all cultural and ethnic groups, especially those groups that have been minoritized over the years.
Vision
VP's vision is to see materials drawn from the experiences of people of all cultural groups, and easily accessible to all children, youths and adults, in an effort to build respect and appreciation for all peoples, and to foster equity amid diversity.
